This module provides an overview of the definition of sustainable development from both the general and Navy-specific points of view. The Navy requirements that precipitated the development of this training course are presented. Basic sustainable development concepts, the Whole Building Approach (WBA) to designing high-performance buildings and the importance of developing a project utilizing an Integrated Design Team (IDT) are described. With this knowledge in hand, you will be prepared to begin a more detailed discussion of sustainable development principles.
