COMcheck (15 min)
In this video, Pam Cole with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) helps viewers learn how to use COMcheck to demonstrate compliance with the Illinois Energy Conservation Codes for Commercial Buildings. PNNL developed this software tool for the U.S. Department of Energy.
Building professionals can download COMcheck at no cost from www.energycodes.gov.
COMcheck software makes it easy to comply with the state's new Illinois Energy Conservation Code requirements by providing a computer-based alternative to manual calculations, making it easy to calculate requirements. COMcheck allows users to demonstrate compliance with commercial energy code requirements for three major building systems - the building envelope, lighting and mechanical systems.
Illinois Energy Conservation Code and the ASHRAE Standard 90.1, 1999 contain requirements for three approaches - prescriptive approach, performance approach and trade-off approach. Building professionals can use any of the three approaches; only one is necessary to show compliance. Users may print the compliance report for submission to the local building department.
